[RIDE] - IMPORTANT information regarding the discipline collection |
Deanna Raphael-State |
Dear colleagues,
It has come to our attention that in some cases, when a student was suspended for more than one infraction, it is being recorded as more than one incident in the Discipline Collection. Each suspension should only be reported to RIDE once. If more than one infraction is reported, then it appears that the student was suspended multiple times. This also makes the school’s suspension rate appear higher than it actually is.
Furthermore, only one infraction code should be reported; this should be the most serious applicable code. For the purposes of this collection, from most serious to least serious these are:
1. Violence
2. Weapon possession
3. Drugs
4. Alcohol
5. Non-violent, non-drug/alcohol related criminal activity
6. Tobacco
7. Other violations
Please review additional guidance on the discipline collection here: http://www.ride.ri.gov/dataworks/documents/Guidance2011-12DisciplineCollection.pdf. I may be contacting some of you individually about this collection in the next few days. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Thanks,
Jan
