Your Assistance is Greatly Needed!
The Office for Diverse Learners conducts an Annual Special Education Statewide Parent Survey in accordance with the federal State Performance Plan (SPP) requirements for Indicator 8, Parent Involvement. It measures the “percentage of parents who report that schools facilitate parent involvement as a means of improving services and results for children with disabilities”. We are striving to continuously increase parent participation with the survey each year.
Each year in March parents of Rhode Island children aged three through graduation or age 21 with disabilities receive the Annual Special Education Statewide Parent Survey in their mailbox. March of 2010 will represent the 4th consecutive administration of this annual statewide measure.
The survey is conducted through a direct mailing in the four most frequently spoken languages in RI to those parents who have a child with an Individualized Education Program (IEP). Individual surveys are received and analyzed by the survey firm and are not viewed by schools, districts, RIDE, or RIPIN. However, the students home address and parents primary language that is utilized for this mailing are created from the information obtained in the October Enrollment Census.
It is important to promote as much parent participation as possible to ensure that parent voices are counted that we obtain fair, balanced, and useful feedback from the many RI families whose children receive special education services within our public education system and that we meet compliance targets. Districts’ participation rates are publicly reported.
RIDE needs to extract the student data from your enrollment collection and submit it to our survey vendor in preparation for the survey distribution in early March of 2010.
Therefore, we are respectfully requesting the districts to update the student address information in the Enrollment Census by close of business on Friday, January 15, 2010.
